Central Market (multiple locations)

Our personal favorite for fresh produce, meats, fish, cheeses and desserts. Central Market is a Dean & DeLuca for gourmet foods and a Farmers Market all in one. When in doubt, ask a store Foodie for advice. The service is great, as are the extensive takeout, catering and the ever-popular cooking classes.

Dallas Farmer's Market

There is nothing like Texas' summer produce, and the Dallas Farmers Market is the place to go when the local farmers make their seasonal apperance. With the recent economic downturn, more Dallasites are discovering easy access to the first-rate produce of near-by farmers. Shed #2 houses local meat and cheese producers year round.

H Mart

This Asian market is a destination for those loking for unusal ingredients and known to be a shopping source for many chefs. The huge emporium is stacked with rarities at gentle prices.

Bubba's Cooks Country

Top-rated for fried chicken and its accompaniments, Bubba's lines are long at its location near SMU for takeout, but the rewards are great. The catering enjoys a niche for casual events. Just an FYI, Bubba's also owns Babe's found in other areas of the city.

City Café Gourmet To Go

Goumet food to go or to eat in. City Café to Go is the serious place to put together a dinner for an impromptu dinner party. Additional space has been recently added for eat-in patrons.

Civello's

Family-owned since the 1950s, brother and sister Chena and Phil Civello make the ravioli for the city's best restaurants. The public can buy the 20 plus seasonal varieties and other Italian specialties, but not all varietes are available at all times. Custom orders accepted.

Holy Ravioli

"Simply good food to go" Fresh pasta and sauces are the forte of the Italian takeout shop. Supplemental courses and desserts are sufficient to make a dinner fit for a king. Good place to stop for a family dinner or for last minutes guests.

Jimmy's Food Store

Jimmy's is a mecca for Italian imports, both food and wine. Do not miss the famous meatball sandwiches on your visit.

Kuby's Sausage House

Karl Kuby opened Kuby's in 1961, carrying on the two generation family tradition from Germany. Kuby's is a stand-out butcher and purveyor of specialy foods and known for its wild game processing. Deli trays are a popular takeout.

Luna's Tortillas Inc

An 80 year old establishment once a fixture of "Little Mexico." Luna's has moved, but the same family runs the kitchen. Tortillas and tamales are their specialty.

Molto Formaggio

Cheese is all the rage, and the well-chosen selections of artisanal cheese at Molto Fromaggio meet the measure. The shops offer an education of some 150 cheeses from 16 countries, many of them unique to Dallas. They will customize a tray for you and recommend accompanying wines for your guests' delight.

The Mozzarella Company

Paula Lambert is a Dallas food icon. Besides her selection of award-winning Italian cheeses, she has added Mexican cheeses as well. Now an author and teacher, Paula is included in our other sections for cookbooks and classes.

Philomena Food Co.

One of a consortium of local farmers who bring their grass-fed meats to the Dallas Farmer's Market on weekends.

Rex's Seafood Market

Owner Rex Bellomy is relatively new to the fish market scene and is a quick success story. The shop is always crowded with shoppers for top-quality fresh fish, foods prepared on the premises and the popular lunch servings. Rex's will soon be open for dinner as well.

Dean & DeLuca (multiple locations)

Best on-line food. Dean & DeLuca, founded in 1977 by Joel Dean and Georgio DeLuca, became the benchmark for a sumptuous celebration of food, including artisanal and unique products, many previoulsy unknown in the U.S. Now a virtual catalogue offers many of the non-perishables and a new wine club of California wines.
